Biography
SCOTT DREIER’s self-titled CD on LML Music heralds a fresh contemporary voice in the interpretation of the Great American songbook. Born and raised in Southern California, Scott’s early artistic influences stemmed primarily from his grandmother—the most ardent supporter of following his dream. Unlike the rest of Scott’s family to whom rhythm and pitch played no part of their everyday lives, music and art were integral to Marie Dreier, and she made sure Scott got a good dose of that ethic as well.
Her belief was strong enough to propel Scott into performing and competing in song competitions, and by the age of 12 he had won his first on-stage accolades. Rock did not turn out to be Scott’s genre of choice. Using live performance and musical theater to hone his vocal chops, Scott starred in a road company production of “Forever Plaid,” and has portrayed Seymour in seven separate productions of “Little Shop of Horrors.” With the advent of the hot Adult Standards radio format, Scott has now found his niche. His influences are eclectic--a jumble of pop, big band, musical theatre and film tunes which Scott has managed to compile into a cohesive package that grace his debut CD, Scott Dreier.
Working with famed saxophonist and arranger/producer, Rusty Higgins, Scott selected some of his all-time favorites songs and together they enlisted Andy Belling, Brad Ellis, Chris Hardin and Jim Vukovich to assist in arranging the material. When they got to the sessions for “Suddenly Seymour,” everyone agreed that Scott should take the song to a whole new place. That new place included Katey Sagal, and her duet with Scott provides one of the outstanding cuts on the CD. “Although most people know Katey from her television success as Peg Bundy and ABC’s ‘8 Simple Rules…’ she has an amazing voice and has sung with Dylan, Bette Midler, Etta James, Paolinho da Costa and many, many others. I knew that Katey would bring her wonderful rock ‘n’ roll feel to the song and I’m thrilled with the way it turned out,” revealed Scott. “I think our voices sound really good together!.”
Other stand-out tracks include “Hushabye Mountain” a song to honor and say good-bye to Marie Dreier; the debut recording of “She’s In Love With Me” from a new show by Berton Averre, (formerly of rock’s The Knack and author of their hit “My Sherona”) and writer/producer Rob Meurer, that features his “Forever Plaid” castmates; the debut recording of Beverly Bremers’ “Pieces of Dreams;” and an interesting twist on The Beatles’ classic “Yesterday” which was the song that won him that first-place prize over a decade ago.
Scott’s other favorites include “Pure Imagination,” “Boats Against the Current” “Moon River,” two Doris Day perennials, “Put ‘em In a Box, Tie ‘em with a Ribbon” and “Blame My Absent-Minded Heart,” “I’m Putting All My Eggs In One Basket,” “Love, Me,” is dedicated to both sets of Scott’s grandparents who demonstrated their love for each other and to him, every day of their lives and “Lida Rose/Will I Ever Tell You” from “The Music Man.”
Richard Sherman comments, “Scott Dreier makes this excellent collection a fresh, joyful experience.” And Les Brown, Jr. ventures, “Keep your ears open, you are going to be hearing lots more from this talented young man.”
Scott has also been a featured vocalist with the Pasadena Pops Orchestra, accompanied Barbra Streisand in concert, and has numerous television appearances to his credit. A portion of the proceeds of the CD will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
